Every day a little girl walks her dog down the street and passes a house with a window.  Inside a woman is always sitting at the window and one day they smile at each other. The girl learns that the woman is a writer and writes at the desk every day.  One day, no one is at the window and a few days later a For Sale sign appears in the yard.  The little girl and her mother go to the open house and look at the view from the writer’s window.  When they get home, the little girl goes to her front window and opens the curtains, then the window.  As she looks out her window, she sees a little boy sitting on his porch.  She sits down and writes a letter then puts it in the mailbox on the boy’s house.  The credits page shows the two children walking the dog and chattering away.

I love the illustrations!  Beautiful watercolor drawings contribute to telling this simple story about friendship and neighbors.
