Culturally Responsive Literacy Instruction, 2009

The authors focus on identifying research-supported best practices for students with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.  Interventions are recommended for five critical areas of reading instruction—phonemic awareness, phonics/decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The suggested practices help students connect language and literacy tasks to their own cultural knowledge and experiences.
