Doc: The Story of Dennis Littky and His Fight for a Better School, 1989

This is the story of Dennis Littky, aka Doc, who became the principal of deeply troubled Thayer High School in Winchester, NH. His unorthodox methods elicited a battle that divided the town and split the school board.  With the support of students and parents, the battle ended in his vindication.  Littky’s approach demonstrated that an education system can respond to the needs of the students with initiative, determination, and caring, despite little money, lack of equipment, and opposition to “new methods.”
