How to Look at Student Work to Uncover Student Thinking, 2021

Rather than just viewing student work as right or wrong, the authors focus on how student work can be a window into students’ thought processes and understanding.  Specifically, student work can involve students in the formative learning cycle:

·       Where am I going?  What am I trying to learn?  What are the criteria for success in this learning?

·       Where am I now?  How does my work compare to the success criteria for what I am trying to learn?  What current understandings can I build on?

·       Where to next?  What next steps do I need to take in my learning?  How do I close the gap?
