The author compares the ideas of Ellen White to those of educator and psychologist William Glasser.  External control, says Glasser, does not work; you need to teach children to control themselves.  A noncoercive approach takes children beyond grudging acquiescence to self-motivation. Case studies show how to achieve this goal.
