The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History, 2004

The author traces the development of the most lethal influenza virus in history, erupting in the winter of 1918 in an army camp in Kansas.  This was the first time that modern science was confronted with an epidemic disease that would eventually kill as many as 100 million people worldwide.  The reader will be struck with the many parallels between events during this pandemic and the COVID-19 pandemic.
