The School as a Home for the Mind: Creating Mindful Curriculum, Instruction, and Dialogue, 2008; Creating Cultures of Thinking: The 8 Forces We Must Master to Truly Transform Our Schools, 2015

Arthur Costa, along with Bena Kallick, are the creators of the Habits of Mind curriculum.  In The School as a Home for the Mind, Costa discusses why educators need to integrate explicit thinking instruction into the curriculum, as well as what that instruction might look like.  The text also examines cognitive coaching that encourages a high level of performance and metacognitive mediations that connect immediate lessons to lifelong learning.  Compare the content of this book with Creating Cultures of Thinking in which Ritchhart discusses how to create powerful thinkers and learners through the use of thinking routines.
